After months of playing with unstable install of OS X on my Thinkpad, I bought my first real Mac: a 15inch MacBook Pro. The first thing I did was look for apps to replace the ones I had used on Windows XP.
Not only was the switch to Mac easy but the quality of apps was actually better than those I used on Windows.
Before I got an Xbox 360, I used to burn all my movies so that I could watch them in the living room. Leopard does come with basic burning tools but I needed an app that could burn data, video, iso, and have it be compatible on PCs and Macs. Burn.app is lightweight, easy to use, and does everything I need. Oh and it's completely free and open-source.
I use BitTorrent for 99% of my media downloading, but when I need one or two songs, I turn to Cabos. It uses the same network as Limewire but it is lightweight, adware free, and simple. It is also free and open-source, and available for Windows and Linux.
If you've read my posts, you can probably tell that I like to tinker. It's almost bitter sweet that Leopard is so stable and the asthetics are lightyears ahead of Windows because there is little to customize. I haven't defragged a computer in months! Onyx is another free app that gives you access to hidden preferences and system maintenance tools.
That's it for now. Do you have better alternatives? Are you looking for an alternative for a Windows app and you can't find anything? Let me know below.
